Ghana regions ranked: BECE, WASSCE and education scores
All 16 regions ranked on the education index: Central is first in 2021/22 and Savannah is last. Upper West has the most schools for its population, 213 per 100,000 people. The newest region-level WASSCE and BECE figures date from 2014 and 2016/17, so each table states its year. We rank regions and districts, never individual schools.

Questions about Ghana's regions ranked
- Which region has the best WASSCE results in Ghana?
- The newest region-level WASSCE figures we hold are the 2014 core subject credit passes, on the ten regions as they were before 2019. Brong Ahafo leads on the average of the four subjects at 74.3% and Northern is last at 32.3%. WAEC does not publish current regional tables that we can source, so we show none.
- How does Ghana rank by region in education?
- On the latest District League Table education index (2021/22), Central ranks first and Savannah ranks last of 16 regions. The index is a composite score, ranked inside each edition. It is not a pass rate, and scores are never compared across editions.
- Which region has the best BECE results?
- On the 2016/17 District League Table II chart, Western shows the highest regional average pass rate at 87.9%, on the old boundaries. The Ministry of Education average raw score for 2015 to 2018 orders the regions differently, so treat the top place as close and read both tables on this page.
- Which region has the most schools for its population?
- Upper West, with 213 schools on the register for every 100,000 people at the 2021 census. Greater Accra has the fewest, at 99. This counts schools, not places in them, so it says nothing about class sizes.
- Do you rank individual schools?
- No. We hold no school-level exam results, so no school is ranked or scored on this site. These tables stop at region and district because that is where the published data stops.
- Why are some regions missing from the BECE and WASSCE tables?
- Those figures were collected before 2019, when Ghana had ten regions. Six regions have no figures of their own, and Northern, Volta and Western cannot be split, so their old values stay under the old boundaries.
