About Oti Region
Oti Region is one of Ghana's youngest. It was carved from the northern part of the old Volta Region after the referendum of 27 December 2018, in which 98.64 percent voted yes, and it was inaugurated on 14 May 2019 with Dambai as the capital. About 747,000 people lived here at the 2021 census, spread over nine districts. The regional council counts around 25 ethnic groups and 21 paramountcies. Because the region is so new, exam results from before 2019 sit under Volta, not Oti. Teacher training has deep roots here. Outside class, Kyabobo National Park on the Togo border holds Mount Dzebobo, and the old village of Shiare sits on terraces in the Breast Mountains.
How the region came about: Created in 2019 from the northern part of the former Volta Region. The referendum on 27 December 2018 returned 98.64 percent yes, and the region was inaugurated on 14 May 2019. Figures from before 2019 for this area sit under the old Volta Region.
