Is GES recruitment 2027 open?
No. We read the Ghana Education Service website on 12 October 2026, including its home page, circulars page and list of news articles. We found no 2027 recruitment notice and no link to a recruitment portal. We also searched for any statement on a 2027 round and found none.
What does exist is a press report. On 11 September 2026, MyJoyOnline wrote that government is expected to recruit an additional 10,000 teachers next year, through the 2027 Budget. It gives no opening date, no eligibility and no portal. Treat it as a sign of intent.

What happened in the 2026 GES recruitment?
The best guide to 2027 is what GES did in 2026. Almost every detail below comes from press reports of GES and Ministry statements, because the GES website itself carries very little text.
On 1 April 2026 the Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, told a media briefing that the Ministry of Finance had cleared the hiring of at least 7,000 teachers. He said the portal would open on 10 April, that graduates of the 2023, 2024 and 2025 cohorts could apply, and that priority would go to people ready to serve in deprived and safe areas. Graphic Online and Citi Newsroom reported this.
Graphic Online reported the window as 10 to 17 April 2026. The GES website posted a headline on 11 April called "GES Opens Applications for 2026 Recruitment". When we opened it, the page held only two pictures and no text, so it does not tell you the rules.
A GES statement of 23 June 2026, signed by Prof. Smile Dzisi, Deputy Director-General for Management Services, set the next steps. Applications would be reviewed by 30 June, the shortlist announced on 20 July, onboarding done from 20 July to 31 August, and successful applicants would report for duty on 31 August. MyJoyOnline and Graphic Online carried it.
On 24 July, applicants could check their status on the portal in two timed phases. Early childhood and primary applicants went first from 5 pm, and junior and senior high applicants from 9 pm. On 28 July a further statement said regional postings were on the portal and that posted teachers should report to their Regional Education Offices from 7 August.

The Ghanaian Times reported on 25 June that the portal received over 40,000 applications for the 7,000 places and shut in under 24 hours. That does not match the seven-day window reported elsewhere, and we could not check it against a GES figure.
Who can apply for GES recruitment? Eligibility and requirements
There is no standing list of rules for 2027, because no round has been announced. The 2026 advertisement is the nearest thing, and the reports of it agree on these points.
- A Bachelor of Education, or a relevant degree with postgraduate training in education.
- A valid licence from the National Teaching Council (NTC).
- Completion of mandatory national service.
- Willingness to be posted to deprived districts.
- Being in the 2023, 2024 or 2025 graduating cohort.
Those are 2026 rules. GES can change the cohorts, qualifications and posting conditions for any new round, so wait for the notice and read the advert in full.
GES recruitment requirements: the NTC licence
The licence is the part you can act on now. The NTC says it licenses teachers under the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023) and runs the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE). On 12 October 2026 the NTC exam portal carried this notice: the portal has been closed for GTLE registration for September 2026. We did not find a published date for the next registration window.
If you are a final year student or a recent graduate without a licence, watch the NTC website for the next GTLE notice. A licence was a rule of the 2026 round as reported, so sort it out before any new notice appears.
GES recruitment for NSS personnel
The reports of the 2026 round list completed national service as a requirement, so a person still serving would not have met it. We could not find the exact wording on an official page, so check the advert when a new round opens.
What documents are needed for GES recruitment?
Graphic Online's report of the 2026 round lists academic certificates, proof of national service, a valid teaching licence and identification. Candidates uploaded them on the portal. GES did not publish the full document list on the pages we could open, and we do not want to add items we cannot source, such as a particular format or size for each file.
Gather these before any announcement, since the 2026 window was reported as only seven days long. Scan your certificates clearly and keep your NTC licence number and national service number to hand. A short window leaves little time for a missing paper.
How does the GES recruitment portal work?
Here is the process as the statements describe it. We could not find the portal address on any official page, so we do not give one.
- GES announces a round and gives the eligibility rules. In 2026 the minister announced it first, then the portal opened.
- You apply online and upload your documents. In 2026 the form was online only.
- GES reviews the applications against the advert. In 2026 this was due by 30 June.
- GES publishes shortlist and status. In 2026 applicants logged into the portal at timed slots on 24 July to see their outcome.
- Successful applicants find their regional posting on the portal. GES said they log in with their vouchers to check posting details at no cost.
- Posted teachers report to the Regional Education Office, then to their school, for onboarding.
To see where schools are and how teacher numbers look across the country, use our teacher data and the regions pages.
How to check the GES recruitment portal
The 2026 statement on status checks said to log onto the official recruitment portal at your category's time. GES did not print the address in the statements we read. The safest route to the real portal is to start from the GES website at ges.gov.gh, or from a link inside an official GES notice. Do not search for the portal and click the first result. Several unofficial sites and social pages claim to host it.
GES recruitment portal login
The 2026 statements mention logging in with a voucher. They do not explain how you obtain one, and we could not find a voucher price on an official page. Other websites quote a price, but we could not verify it, so we leave it out.
GES recruitment date: when will it be?
We cannot give a date because GES has not published one. In 2026 the order was announcement on 1 April, applications from 10 April, shortlist on 20 July and duty on 31 August. A 2027 round may or may not follow that pattern, so do not treat it as a date.
Expect news from the Ministry of Education briefing, the GES website and its social media pages, and the press. The Ministry's own website showed a "Coming Soon" page when we visited.
GES recruitment for teachers and other staff
The 2026 round was for teachers. We found no official GES notice for non-teaching staff in 2026, and no 2027 notice for any group. Public university jobs are advertised by each university.
If you are still choosing a path, see our pages on colleges of education admission, technical universities and nursing and midwifery programmes. GES hires teachers, and health training leads to different employers. Browse the schools register to see where you might teach.
GES recruitment scams: how to protect yourself
GES has posted public warnings in 2026. On 21 January it published a "Fake Recruitment Notice" with a picture of a fake letter and asked the public to be wary. On 8 March it flagged a fake GES promotion examination workshop. On 28 July a GES statement said recruitment into GES is free and that applicants should ignore calls and messages from people claiming to be GES officers and asking for money. The Ghanaian Times reported that those who are approached should report to the police.
Use these habits.
- Do not pay anyone for a job, a posting or a "fast track". GES says recruitment is free.
- Do not trust a link on Facebook, WhatsApp or TikTok. Open the GES website yourself.
- Do not send your Ghana Card, your certificates or your mobile money PIN to anyone who calls you.
- Be careful with any page that tells you the 2027 portal "is open" before GES has said so.
- Check any letter against the GES contact details: phone 030 297 7663, 030 297 7667 or 030 297 7668, or email info@ges.gov.gh.
What we could not confirm
- The web address of the GES recruitment portal. No official page we opened shows it.
- Any date for a 2027 round, the cohorts it would cover, or the number of posts.
- The 2026 voucher price. Only unofficial sites quote one.
- The 40,000 applications figure, which comes from one press report.
- Any reported TVET or second intake. A ModernGhana headline mentions another intake, but the site blocked us from opening it, so we do not use it.
- The 2026 rules as GES wrote them. The official GES notice of 11 April was images only.

Frequently asked questions
Is GES recruitment 2027 open?
No. On 12 October 2026 we found no GES recruitment 2027 notice and no open portal. MyJoyOnline reported on 11 September 2026 that government is expected to recruit another 10,000 teachers next year, but that is a press report with no date.
What are the documents needed for GES recruitment?
For the 2026 round, Graphic Online listed academic certificates, proof of national service, a valid teaching licence and identification. GES has not published a 2027 list. Prepare scans of these now.
How to apply for GES recruitment?
You apply online on the GES recruitment portal once a round is announced. In 2026 you filled in the form and uploaded your documents. We could not find the portal address on an official page, so start from ges.gov.gh or an official GES notice.
Is the GES recruitment portal active?
We could not find any notice that it is open for new applications. Teachers selected in 2026 were told to log in with their vouchers to see their postings, so the portal has been used for that. Do not trust a page that says a new round is open unless GES says so.
How to check the GES recruitment portal?
Start from the GES website or a link in an official GES notice, then log in with the details you were given. In 2026, applicants checked their status on 24 July in two timed phases, primary level from 5 pm and junior and senior high from 9 pm.
Who can apply for GES recruitment?
In 2026, reports said licensed graduates of the 2023, 2024 and 2025 cohorts who had finished national service and were ready for posting to deprived districts. The 2027 rules are not published.
Is there a GES recruitment date?
Not yet. GES has published no date for 2027. We list the 2026 timeline above so you can see the usual order of events, but we do not treat it as a date.
Is GES recruitment free?
Yes, according to GES. Its 28 July 2026 statement said recruitment into GES is free and told applicants to ignore people asking for money. Report such calls to the police.
Can NSS personnel apply for GES recruitment?
The 2026 round reportedly required completed national service. A person still serving would not meet that. Check the advert for any new round.
Do I need an NTC licence?
For the 2026 round, reports listed a valid NTC licence as a requirement. The NTC runs the licensure examination, and on 12 October 2026 its portal said registration for the September 2026 sitting was closed.
