Colleges of education in Ghana: admission and the list of colleges
The register holds 50 colleges of education, 48 of them public, and 50 appear on the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission's accredited list. In a letter dated 30 September 2026 the Commission told the colleges to begin 2026/2027 admissions at once, using the 2025/2026 approved fees until the new ones are approved. The Commission has published no national admission dates, forms or fees, so none are printed here.

The 50 colleges of education
Listed alphabetically. The status column is what the regulator publishes, read on 7 October 2026.
The accredited-by column names the regulator lists that carry the institution: GTEC is the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission and NMC the Nursing and Midwifery Council. None matched means the name does not appear on a regulator list, which is not a finding that the institution is unaccredited. Region is as stated on the register or by the Commission. Fees and dates are for each college to confirm, and the Commission's letter is the official statement on 2026/2027 admissions.
What a college of education offers
Colleges of education train teachers for basic schools. All 50 colleges on our register are on the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission's accredited list, so being accredited does not separate one from another. Many colleges now run the Bachelor of Education in partnership with a university, which means the degree may be awarded by that university and not by the college. Ask which university, and get the answer in writing.
Colleges decide their own application dates and fees. On 30 September 2026 the Commission directed colleges to begin 2026/2027 admissions with immediate effect and to apply the approved 2025/2026 fees until new fees are approved. So the schedule you are shown for this year should be the 2025/2026 one. The Commission publishes no national cut-off for colleges of education and no pass rates. If a college quotes you a requirement, treat it as that college's own.
What makes one college of education better than another
A college of education trains teachers for basic schools. All 50 on the register hold current accreditation from the Commission. After that, the useful differences are practical: the programmes offered, distance from home, boarding, cost, and the university that awards the degree. Nobody publishes results by college, and there is no standard league table.
So our ordering is simple and limited. We list the colleges by when their current accreditation ends, latest first. A longer window means the Commission approved the college more recently. It does not mean a better college. Treat the table as a map of the sector.
How this list was built
Every college of education on the register, with the accreditation end date the Commission prints. Colleges with no printed end date, 2 in all, are listed separately. Ownership is as the register records it.

Towns are as the register states them. 48 of the 50 colleges are public and 2 private. Because most colleges sit in towns away from the big cities, the practical question for many families is boarding and travel, not the name on the gate.

Colleges of education in Accra
The register has 2 colleges of education matched to Accra or Ada by town: Accra College of Education, Accra, Ada College of Education, Ada. Other colleges within reach of Accra include the Eastern Region colleges at Aburi, Akropong and Somanya. Use the region pages to see what sits near you.
How to choose between colleges
- Start with the programme and the qualification it leads to, then find out which university awards the degree.
- Think about distance and boarding. Count travel and living costs, not only fees.
- Ask for a written fee schedule that shows what each amount covers. A college that cannot give one is a warning sign.
- Ask how teaching practice works and when it happens in the programme.
- Check the accreditation window in the table above covers the years you will study.
- Buy forms only through the college's own channel. Street and online sellers without authority can take your money and leave you with nothing.
Posting after training is handled by the Ghana Education Service, not by the college. Be wary of anyone who promises a posting.
What we could not confirm
- Cut-off marks, pass rates and student numbers by college. None are published.
- The date each college's forms close. These are set by each college.
- The university each college is affiliated to, which we did not collect for this page.

Questions people ask
- Are college of education forms out for 2026-2027?
- The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission directed colleges of education in a letter dated 30 September 2026 to begin 2026/2027 admissions with immediate effect. There is no single national application page or closing date, so confirm with the college you want.
- Is 2026 teacher training form out?
- See the answer above: the Commission has told colleges to begin admissions. Form prices and dates are set by each college, so ask the college directly and pay only through the channel it publishes.
- How much are teacher training college fees in Ghana?
- Fees are set by each college. The Commission's letter says colleges should apply the approved 2025/2026 fees for now while the 2026/2027 fees await approval, so ask the college for the figure in writing.
- What are the 46 colleges of education in Ghana?
- Our register lists 50 colleges of education, 48 of them public, and every one is in the table above with its region. Graphic Online's guide for 2025/2026 speaks of 46 public colleges. The table is the register as the regulators list it.

- How many years is teacher training in Ghana?
