Nursing and midwifery training colleges in Ghana
The register holds 178 nursing and midwifery training colleges, 127 of them public and 51 private or with no owner stated. This page lists the public ones and the private ones have their own page. The Nursing and Midwifery Council lists 125 as accredited, and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission lists 74 as accredited and 6 with accreditation expired. The table shows each college's status and the programme codes the Council prints. Application dates, forms and fees are set by each college.

The 127 public nursing and midwifery training colleges
Listed alphabetically. Status and programme codes are what the regulators publish, read on 7 October 2026.
The accredited-by column names the regulator lists that carry the institution: GTEC is the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission and NMC the Nursing and Midwifery Council. None matched means the name does not appear on a regulator list, which is not a finding that the institution is unaccredited. Programme codes are printed as the Council prints them and their meanings are on the Council's site. A college with no regulator listing matched may still be accredited, because we match on names. Region is as stated by the register or the regulator.
What "best nursing training college" can honestly mean
People search for the best nursing training colleges in Ghana to answer one question: where should I apply so that I qualify, pass the licensing exam and get a job? Nobody publishes the data that would answer it. There are no school-level pass rates, no placement figures and no standard cost list.
What the regulators do publish is who is accredited. That is a real filter, because applying to a college that is not accredited for a programme can cost you a year and a form fee. So this page ranks on regulatory standing and nothing else. A college that two regulators list as accredited has cleared two checks. It is not a promise of quality, only of being legitimate.
How this list was built
We took every nursing and midwifery training college on the register and checked two lists: the Nursing and Midwifery Council's accredited institutions and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission's accredited list. Colleges on both lists go in the table. Within that group, a college with more programme codes printed by the Council comes first, then alphabetical order. Region is shown where the register holds one; otherwise we show the town.

| Council list only | 101 | Accredited by the Council. No matching Commission listing in our data. |
| Commission list only | 50 | Listed by the Commission, with no Council listing matched. |
| Neither matched | 3 | No regulator listing matched. Not a finding that the college is unaccredited. |

What the other groups mean
The Council's list covers 125 of the 178 colleges, and the Commission's list covers 74. Public nursing and midwifery training colleges, which are the majority, are mostly on the Council's list. The Commission publishes the accreditation windows with dates. If your college is in the Council-only group, ask for its Commission accreditation letter. You can read the complete list, with every college, on our nursing and midwifery training colleges page and the private nursing colleges page.

After training: the licensing examination
A nursing or midwifery certificate is not the last step. Graduates sit a professional licensing examination run by the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and those who pass are registered and given a professional identification number. A college page quoting the Council says the examinations are held several times a year, in February and March, June and July, August, and November and December, with the college head certifying that the candidate has met the theory and practical requirements. That page is dated 2020, so confirm the current sitting dates and fees with the Council before you plan around them.
This is why pass rates matter, and why they are worth asking for in writing. Nobody publishes them by school, so a college that quotes you a figure should be able to say which sitting and which year it covers.
Questions to ask a nursing school before you pay
Ask in writing where you can.
- Which programme code is this course running under?
- Where do students do clinical work, and how many students share each site?
- What was the licensing exam pass rate, and which year does it cover? A rate with no year tells you little.
- What is the total cost for the whole programme, not just the first payment?
- Who awards the certificate: the college, a university or another body?
- Is the college on both the Council's list and the Commission's list? If it is missing from one, ask why before you pay.
Forms are sometimes sold before the official window opens. Pay only through the channel the college and the Council publish, never to a personal account, and keep your receipts.
What we could not confirm
- Licensing exam pass rates, employment rates and fees for any college.
- Whether a college outside the "both lists" group is accredited. We match on names, and name differences can hide a match.
- Entry grades. The regulators publish none.
What the programme codes mean
The Nursing and Midwifery Council lists the accredited institutions and prints a code beside each programme. RGN stands for registered general nurse, and the other codes are explained on the Council's site, so read the code rather than guess from the letters. The code tells you what you are applying for. Paying for a form without checking it can leave you on a programme you did not plan.
Accreditation can change, and a programme can lose it, so check the Council's list again before you pay. The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission accredits the institution; the Council approves the nursing programmes. Both matter.
University nursing is a degree, the BSc Nursing. Training colleges run diploma and certificate programmes. KNUST and the University of Cape Coast publish cut-off aggregates for BSc Nursing. We found none published for the training colleges, and no pass rates by school anywhere, so compare what is printed and confirmed and leave the rumours out.

Nursing at university or at a training college
There are two main routes into nursing in Ghana. The first is a degree at a university, the BSc Nursing, which is competitive and has published cut-off points at some universities. The second is a diploma or certificate programme at a nursing and midwifery training college, which is usually what people mean when they search "nursing training colleges". This page is about the first route. For the second, read the nursing training colleges list.
Whichever route you take, the Nursing and Midwifery Council decides which institutions can run which programmes, and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission accredits the institutions themselves. A programme can lose accreditation. Check before you pay.

A lower aggregate means a harder place to get. The two universities print their figures in different ways, so do not read the table as a ranking. See the cut-off points pages for how each is printed.
How to choose a nursing programme
- Confirm the programme code. The Council's list prints codes such as RGN for registered general nurse. Match the code to the programme you want.
- Look at clinical placements. Ask the school where students do clinical work and how many students share each site.
- Ask about the licensing exam. Ask for pass rates in writing. They are not published nationally.
- Compare costs. Fees are set by each institution.
- Check the dates. Nursing admissions run on their own calendar. See the nursing training form guide for the latest we have.

Questions people ask
- Is nursing training form out for 2026 to 2027?
- No regulator has published 2026/2027 nursing and midwifery application dates or a form price. The Nursing and Midwifery Council and the Ministry of Health are the bodies to ask.
- Are nursing applications open for 2026?
- Application status is set by each college. Confirm with the college and the Council before you pay for a form.
- How much are nursing training college fees in Ghana?
- Fees are set by each college. Ask the college for its fee schedule in writing.
- What are the top 10 nursing training colleges in Ghana?
- There is no ranking of nursing colleges. A ranking needs a published method, and no results are published for them. The table shows the accreditation each regulator publishes, which is the check that matters before you pay.
- What are the entry requirements for nursing training colleges in Ghana?
- The regulators publish no entry requirements for the training colleges. For comparison, the BSc Nursing degree at KNUST shows a cut-off aggregate of 07 and at UCC 12, as each university prints it. Those are degree programmes at universities and the figures are not the colleges' requirements.
- Which nursing training colleges accept D7?
- No regulator names colleges that accept a D7. The Nursing and Midwifery Council publishes accreditation, not entry grades. Ask the college, and get the answer in writing.
- Which course is the best in nursing training?
- There is no ranking of courses. The table shows which programmes the Council lists for each college, using its own codes.
- What are the top 10 nursing training colleges in Ghana?
- There is no official ranking. The first ten rows of the table above are the colleges on both regulators' lists with the most programme codes. Treat them as a starting point.
- Which nursing training college is the best?
- We cannot name one, because no results are published. Choose among accredited colleges by programme, location and cost.
- Is nursing training form out for 2026/2027?
- Application dates are set by each college. We did not find a national announcement. Confirm with the college and the Council before you pay.
- Which nursing training colleges accept D7?
- Neither regulator publishes entry grades. Ask the college and get the answer in writing.
- How much are nursing training college fees in Ghana?
- Fees are set by each college and are not published nationally. We never estimate them.
- Which nursing college offers a degree?
- Degrees are awarded by universities. See nursing at Ghana universities. Some training colleges are linked to universities for degree programmes, so ask the college.
- How many nursing and midwifery training colleges are there?
- The register holds 178. 24 are on both regulator lists.
- Is this page updated?
- We re-check it when either regulator updates its list.
- Which university is best for nursing in Ghana?
- There is no published ranking. 10 universities are on the Council's accredited list in our register. KNUST and UCC publish cut-offs for BSc Nursing.
- Which private universities in Ghana offer nursing programmes?
- Several private universities appear on the Council's list in the table above, such as those marked private in the Ownership column.
- What is the cut-off for nursing at KNUST and UCC?
- KNUST prints 07 and UCC prints 12 for BSc Nursing, as each university prints it.
- Do I need the Nursing and Midwifery Council to approve a programme?
- Yes. The Council accredits institutions to run specific programmes. Check the Council's list before you pay.
- What is the difference between nursing training college and university nursing?
- University nursing is a degree programme. Training colleges run diploma and certificate programmes. Both lead to registration, but the routes differ in length and entry.
- Is D7 accepted for nursing?
- The regulators publish no entry grades. Ask the institution and get the answer in writing.
