About Kumasi
Kumasi is the capital of the Ashanti Region and the seat of the Asantehene, whose palace is at Manhyia. The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly counted 443,981 people in the 2021 census, but that figure covers only the central assembly. Six more municipalities were carved out of it, five of them in 2018, so the city people know as Kumasi now sits across seven school districts in our directory. KNUST began here in 1952 as Kumasi College of Technology. Trade is the biggest employer, and Kejetia market is where much of it happens. When you search for a school, check the municipality as well as the town name, because the same road can belong to a different assembly.
