About Koforidua

Koforidua is the capital of the Eastern Region and the main town of the New Juaben area. The Juaben people moved here from Asante in the 1870s, and the Akwantukese festival at the end of each year recalls that journey. Most of the town sits in New Juaben South, while Effiduase, home of Pope John Senior High School, falls in New Juaben North. Services make up most of the local economy, and the Central Market and Juaben Serwaa Market each trade on Mondays and Thursdays. Koforidua Technical University began as a polytechnic in 1997 and became a technical university in 2016. Families comparing schools can look at both municipalities in the directory.
