It is Monday morning at Bluewick Studio, a small marketing agency with nine clients. A requester named Imani sends you a spreadsheet export and one line: the client wants to know why last month's ad spend did not turn into sales. You open the file. The dates are text, two rows are duplicated, and the total at the bottom does not match the invoice. You do not guess. You clean the export in a copy, keep the raw file untouched, and build a pivot table that reconciles to the invoice total. Then you write one sentence at the top of a chart: spend rose while sales fell. That sentence is the finding. That is the work. You are the person who turns a messy export into a number a manager can act on. I am an experienced analyst, and in this course I will show you how the job is done on a real queue, with real requesters, at a fictional agency called Bluewick Studio. Nine clients, six requesters, the same names all the way through. You will learn spreadsheets, SQL and a dashboard tool, and you will practise until the number you send is the number that reconciles. Training and certification do not guarantee employment. What they can do is teach you the habits that make a junior analyst useful on day one. Let me give you the size of this work, and I will be careful, because the government does not count data analyst as its own occupation. The closest measures are operations research analysts and data scientists, and the course says so plainly. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the median pay for operations research analysts at eighty-eight thousand nine hundred and forty dollars a year in the latest handbook, with about seven thousand five hundred openings a year on average over the decade. For data scientists, the same source puts the median at one hundred and twenty thousand two hundred and thirty dollars a year, with about twenty-four thousand eight hundred openings a year on average, and the handbook lists data analyst as a related title. That is the pay and the demand from the government's own numbers. A demand check run before this track was built found sixty thousand five hundred monthly US searches for data analyst jobs, fourteen thousand eight hundred for remote data analyst jobs, and nine thousand nine hundred for entry-level data analyst roles. Those are searches, not jobs, and I will not pretend otherwise. What they show is a steady appetite for people who can turn an export into a number a manager can act on. Training and certification do not guarantee employment. What they can do is give you the habits and the proof of work that make you worth interviewing. So what is the job, really? Imani sends a request. You read it twice before you touch anything, because the request is not the task. The task is the decision behind it. She needs to know why ad spend did not turn into sales, and she needs it before the Friday freeze. You find the metric, the dimension and the KPI, and you say them back to her in one line so you are both talking about the same number. Then you work. You clean the export in a copy, never the raw file. You build the pivot, you check the total against the invoice, you write the chart title as the finding. You hand back a one-page report with the number and the sentence that explains it. That is the whole job: a request, a number, a decision it serves. Now the line the role never crosses. You do not decide. You do not tell Imani to cut the campaign or move the budget. You give her the number, the caveat, and where it came from, and she decides. You also never invent a figure to fill a gap, and you never send a number you cannot reconcile to its source. If it does not tie out, you say so before someone else finds it. That restraint is what makes a junior analyst trusted with real client data. Training and certification do not guarantee employment. What they can do is build the habit of stopping at the line. This course is for a particular kind of beginner, and I want to be honest about who it is not for. It is for you if you are starting out or changing careers and you want to turn messy exports into numbers a manager can act on. You may be aiming at a remote analyst role, or at an employer here in West Africa. You do not need a maths degree. You need patience with a spreadsheet and the willingness to check your own total before you send it. It is not for you if you want to skip the cleaning and jump straight to the dashboard. The cleaning is the job. It is not for you if you want to be told what the number means and never defend it, because every figure you send on the Bluewick queue is checked against its source. It is not for you if you want a certificate that stands in for practice. The practicum is timed, and passing needs zero critical errors. And it is not for you if you are looking for a guarantee. Training and certification do not guarantee employment. What this course can do is put you in front of the same kind of request, from the same requesters, week after week, until the habits are yours. If that sounds like work you would enjoy doing carefully, stay with me. If you want a shortcut, this is not it, and I would rather tell you now. Here is how the ten weeks actually run, because the shape matters more than the promise. Weeks one to eight are lessons and quizzes. Week one, what a data analyst actually does, the request and the decision it serves. Week two, cleaning data without breaking it, raw, staging, final. Week three, averages, rates, pivots and trends. Week four, SQL, reading the database behind the CRM. Week five, charts and dashboards. Week six, the weekly report and the honest summary. Week seven, data you must protect and requests you must push back on. Week eight, working with requesters and the capstone brief. Alongside those eight weeks you get one live class a week, eight in total, where you bring your own work and we go through it together. All of it happens inside Bluewick Studio, the fictional agency, nine clients and six requesters

YOUR NEXT MOVE

Confirm the decision it serves and what done looks like: leads, deals won, cost per lead.

A number without a decision behind it is a report nobody uses.

THE CLEAN

The leads export has 212 problems: duplicates, dates shifted a day, numbers stored as text.

YOUR NEXT MOVE

WHY THIS ACADEMY IS DIFFERENT

You do the job before you get the job.

Most courses in West Africa teach you about a job. SchoolRegistry Academy makes you do it, inside a company built for your track, with your own work inbox, timed practicum shifts and marked work, until you have evidence an employer can check. On this track the company is Bluewick Studio, a fictional US marketing agency with nine clients and a request queue. You turn messy exports into numbers a manager can act on: cleaning logs, pivots that reconcile, SQL pulled two ways, dashboards.

01

You do the job before you get the job.

Every track trains inside a made-up company that behaves like a real one: real requests, real customers, real deadlines, real consequences. You are not watching someone else work; you are doing the work.

02

Real tools, not slides about tools.

You work in the software the job actually uses, and a tools library inside your handbook holds the tutorials we checked ourselves.

03

Your own work email from day one.

Every student gets a real inbox on students.schoolregistryghana.com. Mail from your fictional workplace arrives there, including the ones that are traps, so you learn to handle a workday inbox before an employer hands you one.

04

Two weeks of timed practicum shifts.

After eight weeks of lessons you work timed shifts on your simulator, graded the way an employer would grade you. Some mistakes fail the shift outright, the same mistakes that get people fired.

05

Your work is marked, with feedback you can act on.

Assignments are reviewed, returned with comments, and you resubmit until it is right. Certificates are only issued under the published rules: the required work done, tuition covered, an 80 percent overall result.

06

A community that keeps going after the course.

The Commons gives you rooms for your cohort, mentoring pairs, alumni opportunities and events. The Getting Hired course is included with every track. No job is promised; the evidence you leave with is real.

How this compares: recorded data analysis courses in West Africa sell for about GH₵ 460 to GH₵ 1,300 with no live teaching; live Excel, SQL and Power BI classes at West African training centres run GH₵ 1,300 to GH₵ 2,650 over two to six months; Python and machine-learning analytics courses run GH₵ 2,200 to GH₵ 5,700; and the best-known online bootcamp charges in dollars, well above GH₵ 3,500. This track is GH₵ 2,200 for ten weeks with weekly live classes, marked work, a fictional agency you actually work inside, SQL and two dashboard tools, and a certificate you can verify online.

How the Academy teaches, in full

DIRECT ANSWER

What will you learn in data analyst training?

SchoolRegistry Academy’s Data Analyst course is a ten-week online programme for beginners and career changers. Classes are live on Ghana time, and a self-paced version starts any day. First, students learn to scope a request, clean an export with a log, and summarise with averages, rates, pivot tables and trends in Google Sheets and Excel. Second, students practise SQL in a sandbox, charts whose title is the finding, and dashboards in Looker Studio and Power BI, on Bluewick Studio, a fictional US marketing agency whose numbers stay consistent all course. Third, tutor-reviewed assignments, a two-week practicum on the Bluewick analyst desk and a capstone create evidence of applied analytical judgment. The October 2026 cohort follows a daily study plan with one live class a week. Certification requires the published completion rules, full tuition coverage and an 80% overall result. The course does not promise employment or income, and it is not a Microsoft or Google certification.

01WEEK 1What a data analyst actually does+

The request and the decision it serves; metric, dimension and KPI; Bluewick Studio and the people who will ask you for numbers; the one-page report; precision and sanity checks; the spreadsheet habits that keep a sheet readable.

  • What a remote data analyst does all day, and for whom
  • The request: who asked, what decision it serves, what "done" looks like
  • Sanity checks: does this number make sense before anyone sees it
  • Formulas that analysts use every day: SUM, AVERAGE, COUNTIF, SUMIF, IF
02WEEK 2Cleaning data without breaking it+

Text, numbers, dates and booleans; blanks, zeros and nulls; duplicates and which row wins; dates across time zones; lookups; data validation; the cleaning log; raw, staging, final.

  • Blanks, zeros and nulls are three different things
  • Duplicates: finding them, deciding which row wins
  • VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP and INDEX MATCH: joining two sheets without breaking either
  • Raw, staging, final: never edit the export
03WEEK 3Summarising: averages, rates, pivots and trends+

When the average lies; rates and ratios; the outlier that is a typo; pivot tables and the four common views; totals that must reconcile; month over month and the seasonal trap; cohorts; benchmarks and where the number came from.

  • Sum, average, median and mode, and when each one lies
  • Rows, columns, values, filters: building the four common views
  • Moving averages and why one bad week is not a trend
  • Percent of total, percent change and percentage points: three different things
04WEEK 4SQL: reading the database behind the CRM+

Tables, rows and keys; SELECT, FROM, WHERE; GROUP BY and HAVING; dates; JOIN and the rows that disappear on a bad LEFT JOIN; pulling the same number two ways; a query someone else can read; the query library.

  • SELECT, FROM, WHERE: reading a table
  • GROUP BY and aggregate functions: sums by client, counts by month
  • LEFT JOIN and the rows that disappear when you get it wrong
  • Pulling the same number two ways to prove it
05WEEK 5Charts and dashboards+

Bar, line, table; when a pie chart is wrong; axes and the chart that exaggerated a dip; title as the finding; colour and accessibility; Looker Studio and Power BI; sharing without leaking a client's numbers.

  • Axes, scales and the chart that exaggerated a dip
  • Title as the finding, not the topic
  • Looker Studio: connecting a sheet, building the first page
  • Who can see what: sharing a dashboard without leaking a client's numbers
06WEEK 6The weekly report and the honest summary+

Sales, marketing, support and finance questions; variance against plan; the two-paragraph summary; bad news without softening it; correlation is not cause; presenting to a director who reads on a phone; the questions you will get.

  • The two-paragraph summary: what happened, what it means, what we suggest checking
  • Bad news: how to report a falling number without softening it or panicking anyone
  • Correlation is not cause: the claim you do not make
  • Questions you will get and the honest answers: "are you sure", "why", "what should we do"
07WEEK 7Data you must protect, and requests you must push back on+

Personal data in your spreadsheets; the US state privacy overview and the NDPA; access and what you never share; health and payment data; repeatable cleaning and Python in Colab; raising an error in someone else's number; the misleading chart you refuse to make.

  • Personal data in your spreadsheets: what counts and why it matters
  • Access: what you are given, what you ask for, what you never share
  • Errors you found in someone else's number: how to raise it
  • Requests you should push back on: the misleading chart, the cherry-picked range
08WEEK 8Working with requesters, and the capstone+

The intake template; estimating effort; the data dictionary; handing over a dashboard; working with engineers; the junior analyst portfolio; the take-home task; interview questions answered with your own work; remote analyst work from West Africa; the capstone brief.

  • The intake template: turning "can you pull the numbers" into a request
  • Documentation a colleague can follow: the data dictionary
  • Three honest projects: what a junior analyst portfolio contains
  • The capstone brief: what you will build in the practicum
09WEEK 9Practicum, part one+

Timed shifts on the Bluewick analyst desk: requests arrive from Imani, Kofi and Anjali, exports come with problems, the Friday freeze is real, and every number you send is checked against the source.

10WEEK 10Practicum, part two+

More shifts including a downtime drill, a bad week you must report honestly, a request you must refuse as asked, and a tutor-marked capstone. Passing needs zero critical errors.

AFTER THE CERTIFICATE

A vendor credential to add later, and the course shows you the path

The SchoolRegistry Academy certificate proves you did the work: the ten weeks, a supervised practicum and a capstone with zero critical errors, verifiable by any employer on our public verification page.

Many US postings for reporting analysts ask for Power BI, and Microsoft issues the PL-300 Power BI Data Analyst Associate certification for it. By Week 5 you will have built the Bluewick dashboard in Power BI Desktop, and Week 8 explains what the exam tests and how to prepare for it with your own work.

Together they answer the two questions a hiring manager asks: can you do the work (our certificate, assessed), and does the software vendor recognise your product knowledge (PL-300). One proves the skill; the other proves the tool.

PL-300 is issued and governed by Microsoft, not by SchoolRegistry Academy, and the exam carries a fee set by Microsoft; the learning material is free. We prepare you and show you the process, Microsoft awards the credential.

BEFORE YOU DECIDE

Good questions.
Straight answers.

Do I need maths or a statistics background?+

No. The course covers sum, average, median, mode, rates, percent change and percentage points from the ground up, and it is strict about when each one lies. What you need is care with numbers, the habit of checking a total against its source, and the discipline to ask what decision a request serves.

Which tools does the course use?+

Google Sheets and Excel for cleaning, formulas and pivot tables; a SQL sandbox holding Bluewick's tables; Looker Studio and Power BI Desktop for dashboards; and an optional pair of lessons in Python on Google Colab. All of them run on free tiers or trials.

Is this a coding course?+

No. SQL is taught as reading a database, ten queries at a time, and the Python lessons are optional. The job the course prepares you for is the junior or reporting analyst on a remote team, not a data engineer or scientist.

Who will I be working for in the exercises?+

Bluewick Studio, a fictional US marketing agency with nine clients and six people who send you requests. Their numbers are one dataset that stays consistent from Week 1 to the capstone, so the pivot you build in Week 3 must match the query you write in Week 4 and the dashboard you publish in Week 5.

Is there a certificate at the end?+

Yes. A SchoolRegistry Academy certificate with a unique ID and a public verification page is issued when the published completion rules are met, including the final assessment and the practicum with zero critical errors.

When does the cohort begin?+

October 12, 2026 at 10:00 AM GMT (West Africa). Lessons run every weekday, about an hour each, with one live working session a week; your instructor shares the day, time and joining link.

Is a job guaranteed?+

No. The Academy develops and assesses skills. Employment depends on your performance, employer requirements, and available roles.

Can I start now instead of waiting for the cohort?+

Yes. The self-paced track opens the day you pay. It has no cohort dates and no live classes. You learn on your own schedule with coach feedback online, and you get 12 months of access. For this track it costs GH₵ 2,900. The certificate rules are identical.

What does the fee include?+

GH₵ 2,200 covers this track. You can pay in full or in two GH₵ 1,100 installments, with the balance due three weeks later. Review the handbook and checkout terms before paying.
